Spring Melt Crested Butte
I was exploring back roads up in the mountains at Crested Butte when I found this amazing scene while standing on a rock bed looking up at this beautiful peak. The hot sun was causing snow up on the mountains to melt making the river the fill up, limiting my time to complete this painting. As I was setting up to paint an entirely different scene, a moose snuck up behind me. Luckily my dog was close by and what could have been dangerous ended up being a very calm moment of observation. After I watched the moose wander off, I knew I had to paint the scene it had showed me. Eventually, as predicated the river was getting too full for me to continue and I had to finish this painting back in the studio. I'll never forget the series of events that led me to this scene, which is most likely the reason I spent so much time perfecting this small plein air back in my studio.
